In the shadowed heart of the 1800s, a wandering runaway named Eve stumbles upon a macabre
traveling circus unlike any other; The Crimson Stage, where the spotlight is both salvation and
curse. Presided over by the sinister, rhyming Ringmaster Rafferty, this is no ordinary spectacle.

Each performer has surrendered their former life to the stage, bound forever to their act.

Introducing Eve, Rafferty & Maude, our three central characters from ‘Crimson Stage'!

Eve, a runaway, is lured into the safety of a Circus tent by the enigmatic charmer Rafferty, the Ring Master.

Maude, the camp Cook, pours stew with insults and bitterness accompanies the drink. She’s one of the longest tenants to this weird and macabre tent of wonders, who no doubt you’ll be getting familiar with, very soon!

Running from an abusive drunken Uncle, Eve found herself lost in a heavy storm, where she was discovered by a travelling circus. The troupe took her in and revealed she had a voice to die for.

Eve is offered a regular spot in the show, as well as safety from the outside world, but at a price.

Rafferty

A cynical, controlling ‘Boss’ of the Circus, who speaks only in rhyme. His charisma, wit and charm are a reflection of his stature within ‘Crimson Stage’ and when he speaks, it’s with authority, almost as if he speaks for the Circus itself.

Maude

Once an esteemed and envied hotelier, known for her beauty and business acumen, she's now the longest serving member of the circus, serving ale and stew to the performers. Her looks have been eroded and her once stature in society a thing of the past. She has an acid tongue and bucket of advice, requested or not.

Burlesque Dancer 'Greta'

Greta is a beautiful and exotic Burlesque dancer. Cursed with not being able to stop, she moves even when resting. She has built quite a following over the years she has been with the circus, but behind her evocative teasing routine, is a tiredness that she can never show.

Glass Eater 'Milly'

Another runaway that was almost starved to death when rescued by the Circus, now however, eats glass in all forms nightly, to stave off her appetite and to quench it one day, possibly. Milly dances with glass shards in her clothing, as well as under her feet, before devouring more broken pieces.

Marionette of Bone

A dancer suspended on blackened strings, manipulated by unseen puppeteers. Each movement is graceful yet painful — joints snapping, body twisting unnaturally. Eventually, the strings pierce into her skin, making her part of the marionette forever.

High Wire 'Constance'

Constance decided to bring the high wire down, to where it could be seen easier by the audience. She has no need for safety nets now, but still performs nightly over a bed of wooden spikes, poised to pierce her body if she should fall.

Tickety

Tickety has been with Crimson Stage since the early days, although nobody can remember his arrival. Charged with keeping the clocks ticking, time can never run out! 'Tickety-Tock!'

Montague

The ringleader, or instigator of the three clowns, as the more senior. He continues to attempt at being a English Gent, with monocle, ill-fitting top hat and tight clothes, but beneath his painted face, is a sad, disillusioned old man.

Pumperknickle

Mischievous, naughty, prankster, constantly falling over, or making others fall, or playing practical jokes on the rest of the troupe. He is scruffy, with a sinister demeanour, who constantly juggles.

Voldatz

The last remaining Clown, more serious, less vociferous, trying to be a bigger star than the the more established clowns. Constantly practising on a unicycle, juggling, or anything else lying around the tent.

Half-Life

Somewhere in between life and death, lives a grey void that has no beginning or end. Known as ‘Half-Life’ , this haunting figure drifts in and out like a ghostly orchestrator, keen to prompt, coax and cajole others into mischief. Be sure to keep an eye on her.
